Tokyo with kids is about friction
It is easy to plan Tokyo with kids as a list of child-friendly activities. The real difference is usually friction: stations, distance, meals, toilets, noise, jet lag and how many decisions adults make each day.
Choose the base for daily logistics
The hotel area should make mornings and evenings easier. It does not have to be the most iconic area. It should be easy to eat near, return to and navigate.
Plan shorter blocks
Think two main blocks per day, not four. One morning area, a break, and one afternoon or evening area often works better.
Make Tokyo fun without making it childish
Tokyo works well when adult and child interests overlap: parks, views, department-store food, trains, small shops, museums, lights and easy restaurants.
When to get personal help
Personal planning is useful if you travel with younger children, several generations, a stroller, allergies or a route that combines Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
